Take in the sun, the sand and the cool ocean breezes.
Asbury Park was once described at the "Crown Jewel Of The Jersey Shore", offering oversized thoroughfares, sprawling
beaches, a boardwalk and amusement pier, a convention center, restaurants and sidewalk shops in addition to more than
400 hotels. However, in the early 1970's, economic conditions changed, causing the city to slip into decay. A failed
redevelopement project then made matters worse by tying up much of the waterfront in legal turmoil.
In 2001, a major Wall Street investment firm, baught up all the waterfront property and rectified the legal issues.
Numerous abandoned structures were torn down and developers / architects were hired in an effort to revitalize the city.
This massive redevelopement project has sparked renewed interest in the city and has recently been compared to that
of South Beach in Miami Florida, which will include new hotels, residential communities, an entertainment district, amusements and a brand
new heavily commercialized boardwalk. Ground is expected to be broken in the summer of 2004.
Ocean Grove
Ocean Grove flanks Asbury Park to its south and is one of the oldest summer resorts on the Jersey Shore. Founded in 1869, it's Victorian cottages,
hotels, Bed and Breakfast Inns and houses abound with character and charm. The Grove also maintains a turn of the century performance hall known as the Grand Auditorium, which seats 7,000 and is home to the largest
pipe organ in the world.
Ocean Grove has a longstanding reputation for being an upstanding community, which can be
symbolized best by it's "dry town" status. There's no alcohol here.
Belmar
As one of the Northeast's premier resort communities, Belmar is a four season community featuring small town charm, while providing big time attractions, numerous recreation facilities and exceptional special events.
Their non-commercialized boardwalk and clean beaches make for a wonderful backdrop to those looking for a relaxing weekend at the beach. In addition
to a wide assortment of restaurants and shops, Belmar also offers a festive nightlife atmosphere and a marina, where
you can rent watersports equipment.
